Position Overview The Publishing Editor - Senior is responsible for developing, editing, and publishing the Military Intelligence (MI) Professional Bulletin and doctrinal publications developed by the doctrine development writers.
Planning, coordinating, and proof-reading materials for publication complying with governing standards, including Army publication guidelines.
Responsibilities / Duties Participate in writing teams.
Engage early in the writing process with the writing team and graphic designers to ensure logical organization of drafts.
Engage with graphic designer for recommendations and subject matter expertise for the layout and design of publications.
Review drafts for templating, APD publishing standards, organization, and logic before the Signature Draft is provided to the appropriate authority for approval.
Review the Final Approved Draft (FAD), which is the approved Signature Draft, again and prepare the Final Electronic Copy (FEF) in PDF.
Prepare TR Form 25-36-1 (Publishing Checklist – TRADOC’s Army Doctrinal and Training Publishing Program).
Prepare DA Form 260 (Request for Publishing).
Minimum Requirements Active Secret security clearance.
Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, or related field.
Strong command of the English language, to include applying the rules of grammar, mechanics, and usage.
Ability to recognize and work with U.
S.
Government, Department of Defense (DOD), and Army language idiosyncrasies.
Highly detail oriented.
Ability and willingness to work independently.
Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to use them to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the technical staff, especially technical writers.
Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite applications and Adobe applications for publication editing, to include MS Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro, respectively.
Ability to edit an average of 700 words per hour.
Minimum 5 years of experience performing the technical writing and editing of technical documents/print publications IAW industry writing standards.
Experience must reflect the ability to proofread, concisely revise, and produce technical documents ready for publication or dissemination following professional standards for pagination and format.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge Familiarity with military and/or military intelligence (MI) terminology.
Experience performing the technical writing and editing of technical documents/print publications IAW U.
S.
Government, Army, and TRADOC writing standards.
Physical Demands Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally and walk short distances.
Repetitive motion.
Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
