* *JOB DESCRIPTION * *SITE:* Main Clinic *JOB TITLE:* Medical Assistant - Behavioral Health *REPORTS TO:* Behavioral Health Clinical Director *FLSA: *Non-Exempt PURPOSE OF JOB: Provides selected aspects of nursing care to patients receiving behavioral health services and assistance to assigned medical provider.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.

engage all patients in a genuine, warm and caring manner; 2.
Respond to requests for assistance from colleagues at Mariposa in a positive, helpful manner.
3.
Utilizes the nursing process to provide direct nursing care according to the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act, other regulatory agencies, and clinic policies and procedures.
4.
Safely performs a range of routine clinical skills which include assisting with procedures, preparing patients for examination, taking medical histories, obtaining specimens, taking vital signs, facilitating telemedicine visits, performing specific diagnostic tests, assisting the provider during examination, as well as, stocking rooms, translating, chaperoning and escorting patients.
May be called upon to perform phlebotomy.
5.
Coordinates appropriate patient information with behavioral health and other specialty care offices.
6.
Under the guidance of health care provider, provide patients with lab results, diagnostic testing results, and other pertinent health care results.
7.
Responsible for conducting daily huddles to review clinical care guidelines and ensure patient is up-to-date on age-specific clinical care guidelines including mammogram, colonoscopy, annual diabetic foot exams, IFOBT, pap-smears, laboratory studies, referrals, immunizations etc.
8.
Responsible for ordering any pending clinical care guidelines as identified in nurse’s workflows, standing orders, or guidance of primary health care provider.
9.
Performs multiple clerical duties such as patient referrals, obtaining reports and dictations, telephone screening and call-backs, mailings, faxes and prescription refills.
10.
Responsible for reviewing patient’s records to ensure immunizations are up-to-date as outlined in standing orders, nursing workflows, or guidance of primary care provider.
11.
Responsible for administration of immunizations including yearly influenza vaccine, pneumococcal, Hepatitis A/B, TDAP, Shingles, etc.
12.
Assures the safety, comfort, and well-being of assigned patients.
Complies with quality assurance, infection control and emergency procedures consistent with clinic policy.
13.
Documents all pertinent information regarding nursing care rendered to the patient.
14.
Provides information and support in the explanation of basic nursing care, procedures and diagnostic tests to patients and families.
Provides educational materials and counseling.

Maintains excellent communication and coordination among the clinical team members in order to provide quality patient care 17.
Implement standing orders on a consistent basis, based on diagnosis, symptoms, or instructions from provider/license staff 18.
Responsible for reviewing clinical care team electronic health records, and working with clinical care teams to ensure quality measurements are being met.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

T YPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1.
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
3.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds 4.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range within the normal range.
5.
Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours 6.
Requires exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.

Preparing and maintaining records and responding to correspondence.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.

Ability to learn related medical tasks and be of assistance to both nurses and physicians 8.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members and other health care staff.
9.

Bilingual in English and Spanish required E DUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 1.
High school diploma required.
2.
Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited program EXPERIENCE: Six or more months of clinical experience.
Job Description Medical Assistant C ERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: 1.
CPR certified required.
2.
National Medical Assistant Certification preferred or ability to obtain within first six months of hire.
3.
Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance as a condition of the first day of employment.
